Distilling Hydrosols and Essential Oils Workshop

Come learn the art of making Hydrosols and Essential Oils!

At Sweet Mountaintop Farm (located on Rincon Mountain approximately 15 minutes outside of Carpinteria toward Ojai)

What does participation in this workshop look like?

• -As a group we have an opening circle where we all introduce ourselves and talk about who we are and what inspired us to be at the workshop.  After that the entire class collectively helps harvest the plant material that is to be loaded into the still, and then we all get to help load the plant material into the still.  We will then fire up the still and go through the entire process of turning that raw plant material into hydrosol and oil.  During the distillation process Rob will give a detailed explanation/lecture on how the distillation process works, as well as some considerations for thinking about your own distillation practice.  You will leave the workshop with the experience and knowledge to be able to create your own hydrosols and essential oils.
• At the end of the workshop, you will get to take home a 5ml bottle of the essential oil that we created, as well as a 4 OZ spray bottle of the hydrosol that we created. (Approximately a $40 value).  Included in the workshop is also a handbook that gives you detailed instructions for how to apply what you learned in the workshop.

This workshop is non-refundable, and there are limited spots available. No credit will be given for not attending.  Purchased tickets can be transferred into someone else's name by sending us an email with the name and email address of the new ticket holder.

What is a Hydrosol?

"Hydrosols, also known as "flower waters," are produced by distilling fresh leaves, fruits, flowers, and other plant materials. With similar properties to essential oils, these aromatic waters are much less concentrated. Their aromas are often soft and subtle when compared to their essential oil counterpart. These aromatic products usually have a scent similar to their essential oil, but also can have a greener note. This comes from the water soluble constituents in the plant material that are not present in the essential oil."
